The game centers on three vigilantes (identified as cyborgs in the SNES port) who must fight against numerous street gangs in futuristic New York City. The SNES version was released for the Wii Virtual Console in North America on November 30, 2009.

Dopo il grande successo avuto con Double Dragon, cinque mesi prima della pubblicazione di Double Dragon 3: The Rosetta Stone la Technos ha voluto riconfermarsi nei picchiaduro a scorrimento con un titolo che richiama il gameplay del vecchio Renegade: il risultato è un prodotto violento, dove ciò che rende il personaggio del giocatore competitivo contro orde di nemici non è più la sola tecnica nelle arti marziali ma anche lo strapotere fisico.
