Dazu zählen der Warp-Antrieb, der Föderations-Gedanke und eine Form der Obersten Direktive, die das Einmischen in weniger entwickelte Zivilisationen verbietet. Das Spiel handelt von einem merkwürdigen, sphärenförmigen Meteoriten, der auf dem friedlichen Planeten „Expel“ aufschlägt und Menschen und Tiere in Ungeheuer verwandelt. Das Objekt wird seitdem „die Hexenkugel“ genannt. Aufgabe des Spielers ist es, mit einer ausgesuchten Hauptfigur das Geheimnis der Hexenkugel zu ergründen und Expel zu retten.
