It was later ported to Sega Saturn, PlayStation, Neo Geo Pocket Color, Game Boy Color, Windows, and Zeebo. It is the third entry in the Magical Drop series and the final entry released in arcades, as well as Data East's final arcade game before their withdrawal from the coin-op industry. In the game, the player takes control of one of several characters, battling against computer-controlled opponents. Gameplay is similar to previous entries albeit with further additions; the objective is to clear the screen of constantly advancing colored 'drops' via a character placed at the bottom of the playfield, which can grab drops and make them disappear by putting drops as a column of three or more of the same color. The player can also participate in a board-style adventure mode, while two players can play against each other in a competitive versus mode. Magical Drop III was produced by Naomi Susa, with Shungo Katagiri acting as the game's planner, while the soundtrack was scored by Gamadelic. It proved popular among players, with the Saturn and PlayStation versions

Venne convertito su Sega Saturn e su PlayStation (per quest'ultima console vennero realizzate due conversioni), insieme a vari altri porting diretti dell'originale per Neo Geo. La versione per Saturn cambia la velocità e vari altri aspetti del gameplay. Il primo porting per PlayStation, Magical Drop III: Yokubari Tokudaigou! (マジカルドロップ3 よくばり特大号?), consente al giocatore di scegliere tra la versione ribilanciata di Saturn e una versione più fedele a quella arcade; il secondo porting per PlayStation, Magical Drop III + Wonderful (マジカルドロップ3＋ワンダホー!?) presenta la modalità di gioco ribilanciata di Yokubari Tokudaigou! insieme a un porting di Magical Drop Plus 1!. Magical Drop III + Wonderful venne pubblicato da Swing! Entertainment nelle regioni PAL con il semplice titolo Magical Drop III. Il videogioco venne convertito anche su Neo Geo Pocket Color (con il titolo Magical Drop Pocket) e Game Boy Color (con il titolo Magical Drop). Nel febbraio 2018 la versione per Neo Geo è stata ripubblicata da HAMSTER Co. in tutto il mond
