It was one of the six games that were available as part of the Genesis launch lineup in the U.S. The Japanese version, titled Hokuto no Ken: Shinseikimatsu Kyūseishu Densetsu (北斗の拳 新世紀末救世主伝説; lit. "Fist of the North Star: The New Legend of the Post-Apocalyptic Messiah"), is based on the manga and anime series Fist of the North Star (Hokuto no Ken in Japanese). Since the international version did not retain the Hokuto no Ken license, the graphics and characters' names were altered. It was the second Hokuto no Ken game released by Sega, following the Mark III original, released internationally as Black Belt. Versions for the Commodore 64 and Amiga based upon Last Battle were developed and released by Elite in Europe in 1991.

Le jeu a été adapté en 1991 sur Amiga et Commodore 64 par Creative Material (Elite Systems). La version Amiga est un port direct mais incomplet de la version Mega Drive, les programmeurs ayant jugé bon de ne pas inclure les 3 derniers chapitres. Le jeu est dérivé du manga Ken le Survivant, mais les versions sorties en dehors du Japon n'ont pas conservé la licence contraignant à des changements de noms et à des modifications graphiques. C'est la suite du précédent Hokuto no Ken sorti sur Master System sous le nom de Black Belt en dehors du Japon.

"La nuova leggenda del salvatore di fine secolo"), è un videogioco picchiaduro a scorrimento laterale, prodotto dalla SEGA e pubblicato inizialmente per Sega Mega Drive in Giappone il 1º luglio 1989. Si tratta del secondo videogioco basato sulla serie Ken il guerriero pubblicato dalla Sega, dopo Hokuto no Ken del 1986. Non c'è un esplicito riferimento a un seguito, ma la storia del videogioco si sviluppa dal punto in cui si era conclusa la storia del precedente e cioè in concomitanza con la morte di Raoul. Nel corso dello stesso anno, il videogioco fu pubblicato al di fuori del Giappone con il titolo Last Battle, e senza alcun riferimento al fatto di collocarsi all'interno del franchise di Ken il guerriero. In Europa Last Battle fu pubblicato anche per Commodore 64 e Amiga nel 1991, da parte della Elite Systems, e sulla macchina arcade Mega-Tech della SEGA, basata sull'hardware del Mega Drive. La versione Mega Drive giapponese del gioco è invece stata ripubblicata per Nintendo Wii il 10 settembre 2008 su Virtual Console.
