It was developed and published by Infogrames. North & South is an offshoot of the Belgian comic series Les Tuniques Bleues (by Raoul Cauvin and Louis Salverius/Willy Lambillotte, from Dupuis) which is based on the American Civil War. The player acts out the Civil War, choosing to play as either the North or the South. The player may choose to start the game year from 1861 (the year the Civil War erupted) to 1864. Each year has a different array of armies and states that each side starts with. North & South contains humorous elements, such as parodies of national anthems, which are accessible when the player selects one of the different languages supported by the game (English, French, Spanish, German or Italian).

Adaptation de la bande dessinée Les Tuniques bleues, le jeu a pour toile de fond la Guerre de Sécession. En juin 2012, l'éditeur Anuman Interactive lance un remake du jeu d'origine, doté de nouveaux graphismes, sur PC/Mac, iPhone, iPad et Android sous le titre Les Tuniques bleues : Nord vs Sud.

El jugador básicamente representa la Guerra Civil, escogiendo jugar como el Norte o como el Sur. El jugador puede escoger el año con el que empezar en el juego, desde 1861 (el año en el que comienza la Guerra Civil) hasta 1864. Cada año presenta una selección distinta de ejércitos y estados con los que comienza cada bando. North & South contiene muchos elementos humorísticos. Por ejemplo, contiene parodias de himnos nacionales, los cuales son accesibles cuando el jugador selecciona uno de los diferentes idiomas soportados por el juego (inglés, francés, español, alemán o italiano). Además, el juego está repleto de numerosas situaciones cómicas y gags.

A seconda della versione sono disponibili fino a cinque lingue. All'inizio del gioco si seleziona la lingua e si sente una parodia del rispettivo inno nazionale.
